Californication Season 2 – starting this Sunday in the US

And I am around! Well, almost. I am in Canada. And quite frankly, the way things are building up here, I doubt I will be able to catch it…

However, if you’re in the states – watch it! And don’t say a word to me, as I will be avoiding all coverage about the show until I get my hands on the DVD next year. I already converted all my friends to it, so this season around we can make an event out of it and watch it together. If we are in the same country, that is… yeah, that might prove challenging.

In NYC

So, I am in New York for the next few days. It is hot and steamy here, and I can’t wait to actually get into a museum, where it’s nice and airconditioned. I think I will do the Metropolitan Museum of Art today. And then go and read in the park. Because yesterday, as I was sifting through Guerilla Marketing books at Barnes & Noble, I had the bright idea to buy a book I read over 10 years ago: The Buddha of Suburbia. I love Hanif Kureishi, I actually wanted to buy The Black Album again, but they only had Buddha. Oh well, will have to re-read Black Album next.

Will take some pictures and post them here or on Facebook.

Enjoy your Sunday, wherever you are!

My BlogDay08 blog recommendations…

… can be found over on FilmTiki! Check them out.

Hilarious movies from the 80ies with now great actors

who were teen, or at least early-20ies stars back then.

I have been wanting to share this for a while, and I am working on organising an evening with my best buddies to watch these 3 back to back, probably in this order:

1. Bachelor Party, with Tom Hanks. A classic. Tom Hanks in one of my favourite films, celebrating one last night before getting hitched. It has it all: hookers, a trashed hotel room, and a donkey on speed in said hotel room. Also, some very creative cooking from Tom Hanks involving a bunsenburner and lots of paprika.

2. Better off dead, with John Cusack: absolutely brilliant, starring a young John Cusack as a suicidal, love-sick competitive skier. “Merci buckets” has made it into my everyday vocabulary, and apparently “I want my two dollars!” has become a widely used phrase in the States. Isn’t pop culture great!?!

3. Vampire’s Kiss, with Nicholas Cage. Probably the funniest thing he has ever been in: Mr. Cage is a sick yuppie who becomes convinced that he has been turned into a vampire. “There you are!!!!!” and “Am I getting through to you!??!”, along with the insane gestures Mr. Cage performs (Bela Lugosi style…) also bear great significance, especially to Caitlin, Matthew and me.

Have you seen them? Do you love these movies as much as I do? What would you add to this list to make it a Top 5? And what is your ranking? Share your thoughts!

New way

My faithful readers will have noticed: my professional activities have shifted to the all-encompassing FilmTiki. Which is great. No, it is fabulous, amazing, mind-blowingly awesome! Which is also, why there is more blogging activity out of my professional mind flowing there, than here.

Hence, I decided to re-do this page, and keep it as a more personal site. From this moment on until further notice I will loudblog on everything that takes my fancy here (or doesn’t, but needs to be said). If you enjoy that – do stick around, and have chats with me. If you are more interested in my professional opinions – move over to my blog on FilmTiki.

See you soon – here or there!

Facebook revamped

Have you seen the new Facebook interface? Do you like it?

I kinda do, but I am not sure that it is as useful as it can be… it is certainly cleaner.

What do you think? Curious to know if you are gonna stick with the new one or return to the old one (while you still can)…  Share your thoughts in the comments!

del.icio.us_ly good-looking

If you’re still not using del.icio.us – shame on you, it is about time! Last week I bookmarked a site, and suddenly I found myself in a new del.icio.us interface, which rocks! It has everything the old one had, but it’s a bit sleeker, and one feels more encouraged to enter a description, since that whole entering tags and comments bit is bigger and more centered.

So go on, sign up now, and get your bookmarks sorted out. I have almost no bookmarks in my browser, but my entire archive can be found here. And as my co-workers can testify, a good system for sharing information on certain subjects.

Facebook growing (still, and in new places)

Facebook is still growing. Numbers show that though the growth has slowed down in North America, South America is growing like crazy: 34.9 % in the last 4 weeks!

I wanna know if this growth is happening in a Spanish / Portuguese version or in the English version of the network. Anybody got more info on that?

What I find interesting is that the use of applications seems to be declining. Facebook is more about the socializing, which is the real value of a Social Network… the networking. Funny that!

Bad idea

I love Social Networks. I love how they help you stay in touch and talk to groups of friends and acquaintances. Businesses should definitely harness the power of Social Networks for their purposes – be it as research & development forums, word-of-mouth amplifiers or for competitor’s analyses. But they should usually stay away from building their own Social Networks.

ReadWriteWeb had a good post about the waste of time and money on corporate Social Networks. Seriously, who really wants to hang out with fellow, let’s say, Deutsche Bank customers in a Deutsche Bank network? I know I don’t! Most customers will choose their preferred Social Network to exchange thoughts about products – like the HSBC group of outraged students on Facebook (I wrote about it last year).

They will also talk about what they like… don’t worry, corporates! But as ReadWriteWeb put it: “How would you feel if you spent more than $1 million throwing a party and less than 100 or even 1,000 people showed up? ” So corporates: harness existing big networks, and stay away from custom building them. It just doesn’t pay off.
